— Our Approach

How we take on work at Pendulux

Every piece that comes to Pendulux is assessed before a scope is written. For shorter services like crystal replacements or pressure checks, the assessment takes a few minutes. For restoration work, it involves a longer initial conversation. In each case, what we intend to do — and what it is likely to cost — is written down and agreed before the work starts.

01

Piece is assessed and the scope is described in writing

02

Owner agrees to the scope and cost range before work begins

03

Work is carried out at bench with correct tools and documentation

04

Piece is checked under loupe before collection is arranged

05

Results, parts used, and any recommendations are handed to the owner in writing

Crystal Replacement & Refit

A small piece of bench work that often makes a noticeable difference to how a watch looks and feels. We remove the existing crystal — acrylic, mineral, or sapphire — and fit a size-matched replacement using the correct method for the case. Where the bezel is pressed, we use a crystal press with a properly sized die; where it is gasket-set, the gasket is renewed at the same time. The dial side is cleaned under loupe before the new crystal is placed.

  • All crystal types handled — acrylic, mineral, sapphire
  • Correctly sized die used for pressed bezels
  • Gasket replaced where appropriate
  • Dial-side clean included at no extra charge

Water Resistance Pressure Check

A short test to give owners a clear picture of where their watch stands on water resistance, with no obligation to follow up if the result is satisfactory. We perform a dry vacuum check first to detect leaks at the joints, then a wet pressure test at a level appropriate to the case's stated rating. A printed result sheet is provided. Where the watch fails, we describe which gaskets or seals appear to be at fault and offer a separate quote for the corrective work.

  • Dry vacuum check performed first
  • Wet pressure test at appropriate rating
  • Printed result sheet provided regardless of outcome
  • Fault description and separate quote if the watch fails
  • No obligation to proceed with further work

Full Restoration for Inherited Pieces

A long, careful programme for watches that have passed through a family and now deserve a thoughtful return to working order. After an initial appointment to discuss what the piece means to you, we set out a written scope with milestones, a parts list, and an indicative cost range. The work proceeds in stages with brief written updates. Where original parts must be kept rather than replaced, we describe the implications honestly. Where parts are no longer made, we explain the sourcing options before any work goes ahead.

  • Initial consultation included in the fee
  • Written scope with milestones and cost range
  • Written updates at each milestone
  • Original parts preserved at owner's instruction
  • Parts sourcing options explained before ordering

Standards that apply to every service

Secure piece custody

Each piece is logged on intake, assigned a drawer number, and stored securely when not on the bench. No watch sits unattended on an open surface.

Loupe inspection before and after

Condition is assessed under magnification at the start of the job and reviewed again before the piece is returned. Anything notable is written down.

Correct tools for each case type

We maintain a full set of crystal press dies, case openers, and pressure testing equipment so the right instrument is always available for the job.

Written records for every job

What was done, what parts were used, and what was observed is recorded for each piece. A copy is given to the owner at collection.

No work without agreement

If a complication arises during the work that changes the scope or cost, we stop and contact the owner before proceeding. Nothing is added to a job without discussion.

Returned parts on request

Original components that are removed during the course of work are returned to the owner alongside the piece if they wish to keep them.
